Who should adopt Wolfram | ELE?
Educational institutions looking to improve the creation, management and delivery of materials
Wolfram | ELE (WELE) is a platform that can be used to expand assessment questions beyond the textbook material, create more engaging content by including embedded figures and typeset mathematical expressions and offer precise grading for all types of assessments.
EdTech providers looking to improve their e-learning environment
WELE provides enhanced mathematical functionality, computational support for staff and curated real-world data for assessments.
What's included in Wolfram | ELE?
The platform includes seven tools that can be combined together seamlessly or licensed as individual components.
- Question authoring tool
- Question bank
- Course management system (CMS)/
learning management system (LMS)
- Student assessment interface
- Auto-grading system
- Math input tool
- Analytics and reporting
Question bank and question authoring tool
Wolfram Problem Generator and additional prewritten questions
The Wolfram Problem Generator provides unlimited AI-generated pure math practice problems and answers. On top of this, the question bank is supplemented by a library with thousands of prewritten worded and visual math problems, spanning grades 4 through 12, that are aligned with the Common Core Standards. Each question acts as a template to swap in random coefficients or functions, providing a very large pool to deliver different variations on questions.
Question template notebook
Use readily available real-world data to create new questions and embed graphics for any STEM field, including chemistry, physics, earth science, economics, business and finance.
Integrated into your existing CMS or used as a standalone CMS
Question bank
After questions are created, they are uploaded to a question bank. The questions can then be used for homework, quizzes and other course material. They can also be tagged, making them easier to locate when managing a large question bank across different courses and disciplines.
Seamless integration with existing CMS programs
WELE can act as a standalone CMS, or it can be linked to an existing CMS like Canvas, Blackboard, D2L or Moodle. Assessments and due dates can be created for specific courses and rosters of students.
Student assessment interface and math input tool
A fully web-based interface provides a platform for students to complete homework or quizzes. Answers can be easily entered as typeset mathematical expressions to avoid confusion or ambiguity.
Powered by the same auto-grading engine as Wolfram Mathematica and Wolfram|Alpha
WELE provides accurate and reliable automatic grading of student answers by leveraging the same core technology that underpins leading computational products like Wolfram|Alpha and Mathematica.
Reporting for instructors
Instructors can see precisely what students entered for their answers, as well as aggregated summaries for each student or assignment, and results can be exported to an external CMS gradebook (like Canvas).
FAQ
- Q: Does this work with our student login system (LTI, etc.)? A: Yes. We can link to your authentication system to auto-populate class rosters for specific courses.
- Q: Does Wolfram offer training on how to author questions? A: Yes. Wolfram offers personalized training on how to use WELE, as well as consulting services to design and implement bespoke customization of the platform according to your requirements.
- Q: Does Wolfram host the system, or can we host the system on campus? A: Either is available. The platform can run on an on-premise server, a third-party cloud provider or Wolfram's servers.
- Q: Does the system require students to know how to use Mathematica or how to code in Wolfram Language? A: No. The question authoring tool runs in Mathematica, but students do not see any Wolfram Language code when completing assigned homework or quizzes. If the course content is centered around teaching Mathematica and Wolfram Language, student answers can be in the form of Wolfram Language and auto-graded.
- Q: How does this compare to the Wolfram Problem Generator? A: The Wolfram Problem Generator is for anonymous practice questions, while WELE is a way to take this type of technology and integrate it into your courses and grading systems.
- Q: Does this replace an LMS or CMS like Canvas? A: The platform can act as a standalone CMS or can link to an adopted CMS like Canvas to deliver assessments and write to the CMS gradebook.
