Rafael Fernandez-Flores

Rafael Fernández-Flores is a Profesor Titular C, the highest tenure-track position at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He has been teaching math, physics and programming courses for more than 50 years. Currently, he works at the General Computing and Information Technologies (DGTIC) Office at UNAM. He has a grant from UNAM for developing teaching materials. In the past, he has held administrative positions at the same institution.
Rafael Fernández-Flores has been working with Wolfram Mathematica since 2019, creating learning and teaching materials. He was the advisor of an undergraduate thesis that involved creating Wolfram Notebooks to teach heat transfer courses. He has also developed, with his students, several Wolfram Demonstration notebooks. He has presented papers about using Mathematica to teach undergraduate courses at EDULEARN 2020 and 2021; the corresponding papers were published in the proceedings of those conferences.
Together with Tomás Garza, another Wolfram Certified Instructor, Fernández-Flores taught Wolfram courses for creating teaching materials using Wolfram Mathematica at the DGTIC teaching department in 2021 and 2022. In 2024, he presented a webinar on Wolfram Mathematica intended to explain to UNAM teachers what they can do using this software. Also, in 2024, he conducted a workshop about Mathematica with teachers from the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria, UNAM’s high-school system. He holds certifications for teaching in Spanish and French and has taught Spanish in France and Mexico and French in Mexico.
