Marco Thiel

Marco Thiel has used the Wolfram Language for teaching and research since the release of Mathematica 7. He has developed courses on mathematical modeling and data analysis that use a large range of Wolfram Language functionality. His use includes the connected devices and data mining features of the language and its high-performance computing abilities. He regularly contributes to discussions on Wolfram Community.

Marco leads a research group in applied mathematics and mathematical modeling, with a focus on data-based modeling. His background is in data analysis and nonlinear dynamics. He has worked on applications in many different areas, such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, traffic modeling, studying the stability of our solar system, modeling the life cycle of a biological cell, population dynamics, synchronization of heartbeats of mother and fetus, financial and forensic mathematics, voting patterns, movement of newborns, climate modeling, and patterns in the mating behavior of fireflies. He also works and publishes in the area of nonlinear dynamics, where he is particularly interested in recurrences and synchronization. He is involved in several projects with industrial partners and very actively engages in outreach events to communicate scientific and mathematical concepts. All areas of his work have greatly benefited from using the Wolfram Language.
