Study System Reliability
A model can be used to calculate its reliability. With information about the lifetime of each component, the lifetime of the complete system can be studied. Look at how heat affects the mean time to failure (MTTF) for an amplifier and find the importance of different components of a system. Systems operating at 30 °C and 70 °C are studied.
Compute the mean time to failure (MTTF) for the two systems. The average lifetime for the system operating at a higher temperature is significantly shorter.
Compare the survival function for the two systems, showing the likelihood of survival over time.
Compare the importance of different components for the cooler system after 500,000 hours of operation. The Birnbaum importance measure shows that the operational amplifier (opAmp) is the most important component in this scenario.
