FAQ

Who is the Wolfram Data Science Boot Camp for?

Anyone who wants to be able to do the latest practical data science—at any stage of their career or education.

What do I need in order to participate?

You'll need a computer running the latest version of Wolfram Language, a reliable internet connection, any dataset of specific interest to you and the willingness to explore. A 30-day license to Wolfram|One will be provided upon request. Due to the online nature of this boot camp, please allow sufficient time to prepare and test your webcam, audio settings and internet connection ahead of the start time. Watch your email inbox for your join links.

How much programming do I need to know before the boot camp?

Wolfram Language makes it easy for anyone to do high-level programming. The start of the boot camp will be devoted to introducing Wolfram Notebooks and the Wolfram technology stack. If you have experience with Wolfram Language, you'll be at an advantage. Tech mentors will be available to provide hands-on help for getting started, as needed. Wolfram Daily Study Groups are available to anyone who wants to be well-prepared for the boot camp.

Do I need to know math to do the boot camp?

You'll be able to go through the whole boot camp with high-school-level math (for example, you won't need to know calculus), but if you know more sophisticated math, there will be ample opportunities to make use of it. Some helpful resources are available at Wolfram U.

What will I come away with from the boot camp?

In addition to hands-on knowledge of multiparadigm data science, you'll have computational essays you have created. Participants receive a certificate of boot camp completion. Those who successfully complete graded boot camp exercises will earn Level 1 certification for proficiency in multiparadigm data science. Boot camp projects are graded and qualify for Level 2 certification.

Can I bring proprietary data to the boot camp?

To optimize the peer learning experience, we suggest that data used during the boot camp be something that can be shared with other attendees. However, special arrangements can be made, and our instructors will be operating under our standard corporate NDA.

How does the boot camp compare to other Wolfram educational programs?

The various Wolfram Summer School and Winter School programs are selective application-based programs for students who want to carry out original projects using Wolfram methodologies and contribute to ongoing research. The Data Science Boot Camp is is a self-selecting program that promotes individual professional development in the area of data science.

What if I need to miss a lecture?

The boot camp features a carefully curated collection of lectures, hands-on explorations and other special presentations to enhance learning. Many sessions are interactive by nature and must be attended in order to benefit. We understand that it might be unavoidable to miss a session at some point during the boot camp. Recordings of lectures will be made available, with the expectation that participants will catch up by watching any missed sessions.

Where will the boot camp take place?

The boot camp will be held online.

What is the registration deadline?

The registration deadline is July 29, 2024.

What is the cancellation policy?

A full refund will be given for a cancellation made by July 31, 2024.
